10 Best Project Management Software of 2026
By the KeenVerdict research desk · Updated November 4, 2026

Our verdict
Asana is the best all-round choice: it is easy for non-technical teams, strong on goals and portfolios, and priced fairly at the Starter level. ClickUp packs in more for less money but asks more of its users. Trello is still the quickest way to get a small team organized, Jira and Linear are the right homes for software teams, and Basecamp is the pick for client work when you want a flat monthly bill instead of seat pricing.
The short answer
Asana is our top pick for most teams, from $10.99 per user per month billed annually. ClickUp is the best alternative if you want more features per dollar at $9 per user per month billed yearly, and Trello is the cheapest paid option at $5 per user per month billed annually.
This list is for team leads, operations managers and founders choosing a shared tool for tasks, projects and deadlines. We compared documented features and published prices for 10 tools and scored each on features, ease of use and value. Prices are the cheapest paid plan in US dollars as shown on the vendor's page when we checked it. Where the page only showed us a local currency, the price is marked pending.

Free Personal plan; Starter from $10.99 per user per month billed annually ($13.49 monthly); Advanced $24.99
Quoted from the Asana pricing page on November 4, 2026:
$10.99 Per user, per month billed annually. $13.49 billed monthly
Asana is the tool we would hand to a mixed team of marketers, operators and managers with the least worry. Projects can be shown as lists, boards and calendars, with timeline and Gantt views from Starter, rules handle routine handoffs, and forms turn requests into tasks. Starter costs $10.99 per user per month billed annually, or $13.49 monthly, and is enough for most small teams. Advanced, at $24.99 billed annually, adds the features that set Asana apart for larger groups: goals connected to projects, portfolios, resource management and approvals. The free Personal plan is limited to two users, so it is a trial for teams rather than a long-term option. AI is now metered: administrative AI tasks are included, while other AI requests cost $0.50 each prepaid or $0.60 on demand. ClickUp offers more features for less money, but Asana is calmer to use and easier to roll out across a company.
What works
- +Clean interface that new users pick up quickly
- +Strong goal tracking and reporting on Advanced
- +100+ free integrations, including Slack, Google Drive and Zoom
What does not
- −Personal plan is limited to 2 users
- −Advanced costs more than twice Starter
- −Extra AI requests cost $0.50 to $0.60 each
- Free plan
- Personal, up to 2 users
- Paid plans
- Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, Enterprise+
- Extra AI requests

Free Forever plan; Core from $9 per user per month billed yearly ($12 regular price); Business $17
Quoted from the ClickUp pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Core $ 9 Regular price $ 12 user / mo · billed yearly
ClickUp tries to be the only work app a team needs, and it comes closer than anyone. Tasks, docs, chat, goals and dashboards share one workspace, and the Free Forever plan allows unlimited tasks and unlimited free members, though storage is only 60 MB. Core costs $9 per user per month billed yearly, against a $12 regular price, and unlocks unlimited storage, Gantt charts, forms and chat, plus 1,000 automations a month. Business at $17 adds advanced dashboards, resource management, private views and 10,000 automations. ClickUp Brain AI is included with credit allowances that vary by plan, and more credits can be bought. The trade-off is complexity. ClickUp has so many settings that teams without someone to own the setup often end up with a cluttered workspace. If you have that person, ClickUp gives more for the money than any other tool on this list.
What works
- +More features per dollar than any rival here
- +Free plan has unlimited members
- +Docs, chat and tasks in one place
What does not
- −Settings and options can overwhelm new users
- −Free plan storage is 60 MB
- −AI use beyond the allowance costs extra credits

- Unlimited members, 60 MB storage

Free for up to 10 collaborators per Workspace; Standard from $5 per user per month billed annually ($6 monthly); Premium $10
Quoted from the Trello pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Standard $ 5 USD Per user/month if billed annually ($6 billed monthly)
Trello is still the quickest path from chaos to a shared to-do list. A board, a few lists and some cards are all most small teams need, and anyone can learn it in a few minutes. The free plan covers up to 10 collaborators per Workspace, with unlimited cards, assignees, due dates and mobile apps. Standard at $5 per user per month billed annually, or $6 monthly, adds unlimited boards, custom fields, card mirroring, advanced checklists, the Planner and AI that captures to-dos from email, Slack and Teams. Premium at $10 adds more views, AI and admin features, and Enterprise costs $17.50 per user per month billed annually. Trello's simplicity is also its ceiling. Projects with many dependencies, resource planning or portfolio reporting quickly outgrow cards and lists, and teams end up moving to Asana or Jira. For small teams with simple workflows, though, nothing here is cheaper or easier.
What works
- +The fastest setup of any tool here
- +Cheapest paid plan on this list
- +Free plan works for small teams
What does not
- −Weak for complex projects with many dependencies
- −Free plan allows 10 collaborators per Workspace
- −Advanced views and admin controls need Premium or Enterprise

Free for unlimited members with 250 issues; Basic from $10 per user per month billed yearly; Business $16
Quoted from the Linear pricing page on November 4, 2026:
$10 per user/month Billed yearly All Free features + 5 teams
Linear is the tool engineers ask for by name. It is fast, keyboard-driven and opinionated about how issues, cycles and projects should work, which keeps teams consistent without a long setup. Every plan includes issues, projects, cycles, initiatives, triage, customer requests, the API and webhooks. The free plan allows unlimited members but only two teams and 250 issues, so active teams will hit the cap quickly. Basic at $10 per user per month billed yearly removes the issue limit, allows five teams and adds admin roles. Business at $16 adds unlimited teams, private teams and guests, Linear Insights, Triage Intelligence and Zendesk and Intercom integrations. Linear is not a general project tool. Marketing or operations teams will find it narrow, and companies that need heavy customization or complex permission schemes are better served by Jira. For a product and engineering team that wants to move quickly, it is the best experience on this list.
What works
- +Very fast, keyboard-driven interface
- +Free plan allows unlimited members
- +Opinionated workflow keeps teams consistent
What does not
- −Free plan is capped at 250 issues and 2 teams
- −Built for software teams, awkward for other departments
- −Private teams and guests need Business

monday.com's work management product is the most visual tool on this list. Boards are built from column types such as status, dates, people and numbers, and dashboards pull figures from several boards into one view for managers. Teams can shape it into a content calendar, a hiring tracker or a project plan without help from IT, and it is one of the easiest tools here to customize. The free plan covers up to two seats. Paid plans run Basic, Standard, Pro and Enterprise, with AI credits included and more available to buy. The pricing structure is the weak spot: you choose a team size and pay per seat, so a team of four can end up paying for more seats than it uses, and features such as timelines and automations need Standard or higher. The page showed us euro prices based on billing country, so our USD check is pending. For teams that value visual clarity, it is an excellent choice.
What works
- +Very easy to build custom workflows
- +Polished dashboards for managers
- +Free plan for up to 2 seats
What does not
- −Priced by team size, so small teams can pay for unused seats
- −Useful features such as timelines need higher plans
- −Our USD price check is pending because the page showed euros

- Up to 2 seats

Free for up to 10 users; Standard from $8.48 per user per month on the pricing page's default view; Premium $15.56
Quoted from the Jira pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Standard Everything you need to get started $8.48 per user / month
Jira is the default tracker for many software companies, and it has broadened into a general work tool. The free plan covers up to 10 users with unlimited projects, tasks and forms, backlog, board, timeline and calendar views, AI-driven reports and 150 automation steps a month, but only 2 GB of storage. Standard was listed at $8.48 per user per month in the pricing page's default view and adds Rovo Search, Chat and Agents, user roles and permissions, 250 GB of storage and regional support. Premium at $15.56 adds cross-team planning. Jira's strength is configuration: workflows, fields, permissions and automation can be shaped to almost any process. That is also its weakness. A Jira site without a careful admin becomes slow to use and hard to understand for people outside engineering. For software teams at scale, especially those already on Confluence, Jira remains the safest choice.
What works
- +Free plan for up to 10 users
- +Deep workflow and permission configuration
- +Connects to the wider Atlassian suite
What does not
- −Steeper learning curve than Asana or Trello
- −Free plan has 2 GB of storage and limited automation
- −Admin work grows with customization
- Free plan
- Up to 10 users, 2 GB storage
- Standard limit
- Up to 100,000 users per site, 250 GB storage

Free plan for 1 project; Freelancer $29 per month for up to 5 users; Pro $79, Pro Plus $99; Pro Unlimited $199 per month billed annually
Quoted from the Basecamp pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Freelancer $29 /mo 3 projects 10 GB storage Includes up to 5 users
Basecamp is the opposite of a configurable work platform. Each project gets the same set of tools: to-dos, a message board, a schedule and docs, so clients and freelancers know where to look without training. Its pricing is the other draw. A free plan covers one project for up to three users, Freelancer is $29 a month for three projects, 10 GB and up to five users. Pro is $79 for eight projects and up to 10 users, Pro Plus $99 for 12 projects, 15 users and time tracking, and Pro Unlimited is $199 a month billed annually, or $329 monthly, for unlimited projects and users. For an agency with dozens of client logins, that flat price can be far cheaper than per-seat tools. The limits are just as clear. There are few views, little reporting and no Gantt-style dependency planning, so complex delivery programs fit poorly. If your projects are mostly conversation, files and checklists, Basecamp keeps them calm.
What works
- +Flat pricing instead of per-seat fees
- +Very easy for clients and freelancers to use
- +30-day free trial
What does not
- −Few views and little reporting
- −Free plan is limited to 1 project and 3 users
- −Time tracking needs Pro Plus or above

- Freelancer
- 3 projects, 10 GB, up to 5 users

Pro from $9 per member per month billed yearly ($12 monthly); Business $19 yearly ($24 monthly)
Quoted from the Smartsheet pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Pro $ 12 9 per Member/month
Smartsheet looks like a spreadsheet and behaves like a project tool. Rows become tasks, columns hold owners, dates and status, and the same sheet can be viewed as a Gantt chart, board or calendar. For operations and program management teams raised on Excel, that is a smooth transition. Pro costs $9 per member per month billed yearly or $12 monthly. Pro already includes unlimited sheets, forms and reports with 250 automations a month for up to 10 members. Business, at $19 billed yearly or $24 monthly, adds unlimited automations, a timeline view, workload tracking and 1 TB of attachment storage. Reports can roll up data from many sheets, which suits portfolio tracking. The costs add up when you need more: secure request management through Dynamic View starts at $125 a month and Data Shuttle at $100 a month. There is no permanent free plan. For teams that prefer cards and boards, Smartsheet feels heavier than Asana or monday.com, but for grid-minded planners it is a strong fit.
What works
- +Familiar for spreadsheet users
- +Strong reporting across many sheets
- +Prices shown in USD and many other currencies
What does not
- −No permanent free plan
- −Add-ons start at $100 per month
- −Less pleasant for quick task tracking than boards
- Plans
- Pro, Business, Enterprise

- 1 to 10 members, unlimited contributors

Free plan; Team $10 per user per month for 2 to 15 users; Business $25 per user per month; billed annually
Quoted from the Wrike pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Team Intelligent project management $10 user/month
Wrike suits teams that have outgrown simple boards and need structure: custom workflows, dynamic request forms, automation rules and Gantt charts. The free plan covers essential task management with board and table views in web, desktop and mobile apps. Team costs $10 per user per month, billed annually, for two to 15 users and adds interactive Gantt charts, shareable dashboards, custom fields and workflows, and AI Essentials. Business, at $25 per user for five to 200 users, adds AI Elite features, templates, resource and capacity planning and workflow customizations. That makes Wrike a natural fit for marketing, creative and professional services teams that run many projects in parallel and need managers to see across them. The downsides are cost and density. The interface shows a lot at once, new users need some training, and the jump to Business is steep for a feature set that rivals include at lower prices. If you need its planning depth, Wrike earns its place.
What works
- +Strong Gantt and dashboard features
- +Free plan with board and table views on web, desktop and mobile
- +Scales from 2 to 200 users before Enterprise
What does not
- −Team plan is capped at 15 users
- −Interface is denser than Asana
- −Business costs $25 per user
- Team plan
- 2 to 15 users
- Business plan
- 5 to 200 users
- Free trial

Teamwork.com is built for one kind of buyer: a business that sells its time to clients. Projects come with Gantt, table, list and board views, and every paid plan tracks billable time. Basics covers views, unlimited templates and time reporting. Accelerate is the plan that matters for most agencies, adding smart request forms, 20,000 automations, workload planning with live capacity, time budgets, retainers, invoices built from logged time and connections to HubSpot and QuickBooks. Optimize, which requires a sales call, adds quotes, resource scheduling by role and profitability insights. The free plan allows five users and five projects, and paid plans come with a 14-day trial. The page showed us euro prices, so our USD check is pending. Teams that do not bill for time will pay for features they never use and are better served by Asana or ClickUp. For agencies tracking hours against budgets, it covers the job end to end.
What works

Before you choose
Match the tool to the kind of work
Software teams need issues, sprints and backlogs, which is what Jira and Linear are built for. Marketing, operations and client teams need timelines, forms and workload views, where Asana, monday.com and Wrike are stronger. Very small teams often only need a board, and Trello does that well.
Compare seat pricing against flat pricing
Most tools charge per user per month, so the bill grows with headcount. Basecamp charges a flat monthly price for a set number of projects and users, which is cheaper for larger groups that include clients and freelancers.
Check what the free plan really allows
Free plans differ a lot. Trello's free plan allows up to 10 collaborators per Workspace and Jira's free plan up to 10 users, while Asana's Personal plan is meant for one or two people. Teamwork.com's free plan caps you at 5 users and 5 projects.
Plan for AI and automation costs
Several vendors now meter AI features with credits or per-request fees. Asana charges $0.50 to $0.60 per AI request for most AI work, and ClickUp sells extra AI credits. Look at the allowance on the plan you will buy before counting on AI features.
