10 Best Help Desk Software of 2026
By the KeenVerdict research desk · Updated November 4, 2026

Our verdict
Help Scout gives small and midsize teams the best balance: a free plan for five users, a clean shared inbox and AI drafting on paid tiers at a fair per-user price. Freshdesk and HubSpot Service Hub are close behind and cheaper to start. Zendesk and Intercom are the strongest platforms for large, multi-channel teams, but their AI features come with per-resolution fees that can outgrow the seat price. Shopify brands should look at Gorgias first.
The short answer
Help Scout is our top pick: a free plan for up to 5 users and Standard at $25 per user per month. Freshdesk is the best alternative at $19 per agent per month billed annually. Gorgias has the cheapest paid entry at $10 per month for 50 tickets, and Jira Service Management is free for 3 agents if your requests go to engineers.
This list is for support leads, founders and operations managers choosing a ticketing system or moving off a shared inbox. It covers general help desks, tools built for ecommerce brands and an IT service desk. We compared documented features and published prices; we did not run hands-on tests. Scores weigh features at 40 percent, ease of use at 30 and value at 30. Most prices are per agent per month, so multiply by the number of people who answer tickets.

Growth $19 per agent per month billed annually; Pro $55; Enterprise $89
Quoted from the Freshdesk pricing page on November 4, 2026:
$19 /agent/month, billed annually Launch AI-powered service over email Growth
Freshdesk gives more out of the box at $19 per agent than most rivals. Growth, billed annually, includes the Freddy AI Agent with the first 500 sessions, ticketing and a shared inbox, a customer portal and knowledge base, prebuilt reports, threads and tasks, and roles and permissions. Pro, at $55, adds a multilingual help desk, custom dashboards, intelligent routing, multiple SLA policies and external collaborators. Enterprise, at $89, adds skill-based routing, sandbox and audit logs. The add-ons need watching. Extra AI sessions cost $49 per 100, Copilot for agents is $29 per agent, and connector app tasks are sold in blocks. Day passes, from $2 on Growth, are a smart touch for seasonal staff. The interface is busier than Help Scout's but well documented. For a team that wants AI deflection and a portal without paying Zendesk prices, it is the best value.

Free plan for 5 users; Standard $25 per user per month; Plus $45; Pro $75
Quoted from the Help Scout pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Standard $ 25 per user/mo For growing teams looking to automate more tasks and move beyond email.
Help Scout feels like a well-organized shared inbox, which is why teams adopt it quickly. The free plan covers five users, one inbox and one Docs site, enough for a small business to start properly. Standard, at $25 per user per month, adds multiple inboxes, live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, multiple knowledge bases, basic workflows and an AI Inbox assistant. Plus, at $45, brings advanced workflows, two advanced SLA policies, a secure customer portal, unlimited AI Drafts, round robin routing and integrations with Salesforce, Jira and HubSpot. Pro adds SSO, HIPAA compliance and unlimited workflows. The gaps show at scale: Standard has a single basic SLA, and skills-based routing and phone support are stronger in Zendesk. Its AI answers cost $0.75 per resolution on top. For teams under about 50 agents, it is the easiest help desk to live with.
What works
- +Free plan includes 5 users, 1 inbox and 1 Docs site
- +Clean, email-like interface
- +Messaging channels included from the first paid tier
What does not
- −Standard has only one basic SLA policy

Free plan; Starter from $20 per seat per month ($10 new-customer offer); Professional from $100
Quoted from the HubSpot Service Hub pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Starter Starts at $10 $20 /month per seat*
HubSpot Service Hub makes the most sense if your sales and marketing already run on HubSpot. Tickets live on the same records as contacts and deals, so agents see purchase history and sales context without another integration. The free plan includes ticketing, team email and the Breeze Assistant. Starter, listed at $20 per seat per month with a $10 new-customer offer, adds simple ticket automation, multiple ticket pipelines, live chat and data enrichment. The trouble is the next step. The help desk workspace, knowledge base and AI customer agent all sit in Professional, which starts at $100 per seat. A five-agent team moving up pays $500 a month instead of $100. Enterprise adds skill-based routing and tighter data permissions. For HubSpot users with simple needs, Starter is excellent value. For a dedicated support team, Help Scout or Freshdesk gives more at the mid tier.
What works
- +Free plan includes ticketing and team email
- +Tickets share one database with HubSpot CRM
- +Starter is cheap, with a $10 offer for new customers
What does not
- −Knowledge base and AI customer agent wait until Professional

Essential $29 per seat per month ($19 for new customers), plus from $0.99 per Fin outcome; Advanced $85; Expert $132
Quoted from the Intercom pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Intercom helpdesk $29 $19 per seat/mo New customers save 35%
Intercom is the help desk to choose if you want AI to do most of the first-line work. Fin AI Agent is included on every plan and handles service, sales and ecommerce questions, priced from $0.99 per outcome. Essential, at $29 per seat per month with a $19 new-customer price, adds the Messenger, shared inbox, ticketing, prebuilt reports and a public help center. Advanced, at $85, brings multiple team inboxes, a workflow builder, round robin assignment, a private multilingual help center and 20 free Lite seats. Expert, at $132, adds SSO, HIPAA support, SLAs and multibrand messengers. The total bill is harder to predict than with seat-only tools, because Fin outcomes and channels such as SMS, WhatsApp and phone are charged as used. For a software company with high chat volume, Fin can pay for itself. For an email-heavy team, Help Scout is simpler and cheaper.
What works
- +Fin is one of the most developed AI support agents
- +Advanced includes 20 free Lite seats
- +Live chat, email, in-app chats and banners on every plan
What does not
- −Every Fin outcome adds at least $0.99
- −SMS, WhatsApp and phone are pay as you go

Support Team $19 per agent per month paid yearly; Suite Team $55; Suite Professional $115
Quoted from the Zendesk pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Support Team For teams that have outgrown a shared inbox and need core support essentials. $19 agent/month paid yearly
Zendesk is the most complete help desk here and the one large teams standardize on. Support Team, at $19 per agent per month paid yearly, is an email ticketing system with routing, prebuilt dashboards, pre-written responses, automations and triggers. It is a starting point, not the real product. Suite Team, at $55, adds AI Agents, an AI knowledge base, omnichannel routing, messaging, live chat and telephony. Suite Professional, which Zendesk marks as most popular at $115, adds AI writing tools, skills-based routing, an IVR phone tree and AI admin features. That depth costs money and admin time: a ten-agent team on Suite Professional pays $1,150 a month before add-ons. Smaller teams will find Help Scout or Freshdesk faster to set up. If you run phone, chat and email support at volume and need fine control over routing, Zendesk is the strongest choice.
What works
- +Deepest feature set on this list
- +Voice, messaging and email in one queue on Suite plans
- +14-day free trial
What does not
- −Support Team is email-focused and lacks chat
- −Most teams end up on Suite Professional at $115 per agent
- −More setup and admin work than simpler tools

Zoho Desk gives a lot of help desk for the money and fits naturally if you already use Zoho CRM or other Zoho apps. A free edition covers email ticketing for three users, and every paid plan has a 15-day trial. Express, the entry tier, handles email, social media and web form tickets, includes direct assignment rules and lets you build AI agents with your own model key or Zoho's LLM, with up to 30 million free tokens a month. Standard adds a live chat widget, and Professional brings telephony integrations, Zia AI and Blueprints, a drag-and-drop builder for step-by-step processes. The interface is busier than Help Scout's and takes longer to set up. Zoho's pricing page loaded its prices by script and did not show USD from our location, so we have not listed a price; check it on Zoho's site.
What works
- +Free edition with three user licenses
- +15-day free trial on any plan
- +AI agents available from the entry tier
What does not
- −Interface is denser than Help Scout or Freshdesk
- −Generative AI features need your own OpenAI or DeepSeek key on lower tiers

Free for 3 agents; Standard $21.50 per agent per month; Premium $55.28
Quoted from the Jira Service Management pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Standard Everything you need to get started $21.50 per agent / month
Jira Service Management is the right help desk when requests end up with engineers. Tickets connect directly to Jira, so an escalation becomes a linked issue rather than a copied email. The free plan covers three agents with templates for IT, HR, marketing and customer service, alerts, on-call schedules, incident templates and a customer portal with email and chat. Standard, at $21.50 per agent per month, adds Rovo Agents, search and chat, asset and configuration management, a custom-branded help center and cross-source service analysis. Premium, at $55.28, brings advanced asset management. The trade-off is ease of use. Setup follows Jira's model of projects, request types and workflows, which suits IT teams and frustrates a small ecommerce support desk. For customer-facing teams without engineers in the loop, Help Scout or Freshdesk is simpler.
What works
- +Free plan for 3 agents with unlimited customers
- +Incident management and on-call built in
- +Links directly to Jira issues for engineering handoff
What does not
- −Heavier to configure than customer-facing help desks
- −Built for IT workflows first, so ecommerce teams get less
- −Advanced asset management needs Premium

- Yes, up to 3 agents

Starter $25 per seat per month billed annually, up to 10 seats; Professional $65; Enterprise $105
Quoted from the Front pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Starter $25 /seat/mo, up to 10 seats
Front sits between email and a help desk. Conversations look and behave like a shared inbox, with assignment and ticket status layered on top, which suits teams where account managers and support staff both answer customers. Starter, at $25 per seat per month billed annually, covers up to ten seats with shared inbox and ticketing, AI Topics, up to ten automation rules, basic analytics and a no-code public knowledge base. It is single-channel, though. Professional, at $65 for up to 50 seats, adds omnichannel email, SMS and social, macros, advanced analytics, multiple workspaces, SSO and SCIM. Enterprise, at $105, adds smart rules and unlimited rules. The Autopilot AI agent starts at $0.05 per conversation, cheap compared with per-resolution pricing elsewhere. For a pure support team, Help Scout gives more on its entry plan for the same price.
What works
- +Feels like email, so teams adopt it quickly
- +14-day free trial with Professional features
- +Knowledge base included on Starter
What does not
- −Starter is single-channel and capped at 10 seats

Starter helpdesk $10 per month for 50 tickets, billed monthly ($40 with the AI Agent bundle); Basic $77 per month billed annually for 300 tickets with AI Agent
Quoted from the Gorgias pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Included 50 tickets / month 30 automated interactions Helpdesk $10/mo Then a $0.40 per-ticket fee past your limit.
Gorgias is built for online stores and prices like it. Instead of charging per agent, it charges by monthly tickets, so a brand can add seasonal staff without adding seats. The Starter helpdesk costs $10 per month for 50 tickets and three user seats, with $0.40 for each extra ticket, and the pricing page bundles it with the AI Agent for $40. Basic, at $77 per month billed annually with the AI Agent, covers 300 tickets, and higher plans allow up to 500 seats. The AI Agent is billed by automated interaction, with $1.50 per interaction past the included amount. Pro adds revenue analytics, which shows how support conversations affect sales. The model favors stores with many agents and modest volume. A busy brand with thousands of tickets pays more than it would on a per-seat tool, and non-ecommerce teams get little from the order-focused features. For a Shopify brand starting out, it is the obvious first choice.
What works
- +Cheapest paid entry on this list at $10 per month
- +Pricing does not grow with agent count
- +Free trial, with no credit card required on Basic and above
What does not
- −Starter caps you at 50 tickets and 3 user seats
- −Costs climb with ticket volume and AI interactions
- −Narrow focus on ecommerce
- Starter tickets
- 50 a month
- Starter seats
- 3
- AI Agent overage
- $1.50 per automated interaction

Price
Starter $15 per agent per month regular price ($11 offer when checked), up to 5 agents; Team $29
Quoted from the LiveAgent pricing page on November 4, 2026:
Offer price $11 $15 Regular price: $15. /agent/mo
LiveAgent packs a lot into a low per-agent price. Starter, at a regular $15 per agent per month and on offer at $11 when we checked, covers up to five agents with email, live chat, contact forms, a knowledge base, AI answer drafts, an AI chatbot and SSO. It leaves out social channels, the call center and reporting. Team, at $29 per agent, adds Facebook, Instagram, X, Viber, WhatsApp, Telegram and phone calls, plus agent, SLA and CSAT reporting, SLA rules and custom roles. One detail stands out: LiveAgent passes AI through at your provider's price, which it puts at 2 to 4 cents a chat, with no markup. The 30-day trial is longer than most. The interface shows its age next to Help Scout or Front, and setup takes more clicks. For a small team that needs phone and social support without Zendesk prices, Team is good value.
What works
- +30-day free trial with no credit card
- +AI runs at your model provider's price with no LiveAgent fee
- +Phone and social channels included on Team
What does not
- −Starter has no social channels, call center or reporting
- −Starter is limited to 5 agents
- −Interface is more crowded than newer tools
- Free trial
- 30 days, no credit card
- Starter agent cap
- 5 agents
- Team agent cap
- 15 agents
Before you choose
Count agents, then check the seat price
Most help desks charge per agent per month, and the headline usually assumes annual billing. Five agents on a $55 plan cost $275 a month before add-ons. Gorgias is the exception: it charges by ticket volume, not by agent.
Budget for AI per resolution
AI agents are now priced on usage. Intercom's Fin starts at $0.99 per outcome, Help Scout's AI add-on at $0.75 per resolution and Freshdesk sells extra AI Agent sessions at $49 per 100. Estimate monthly volume before you switch AI on.
Match the tool to your channels
If most requests arrive by email, an email-first tool like Help Scout or Front's Starter plan is enough. If you need chat, phone, social and messaging in one queue, look at Zendesk Suite, Intercom or LiveAgent's Team plan, which includes calls and social channels.
Decide if you need a knowledge base
A public help center cuts repeat tickets and feeds AI answers. Help Scout includes Docs sites, Freshdesk includes a customer portal and knowledge base on Growth, and HubSpot puts its knowledge base on Professional.
Watch the jump between tiers
Entry plans often lack routing, SLAs or advanced reporting. HubSpot Service Hub goes from $20 per seat on Starter to $100 on Professional, and Zendesk from $19 on Support Team to $55 on Suite Team. Check which tier holds the features you will need in a year.
