10 Best Law Practice Management Software of 2026

By the KeenVerdict research desk · Updated November 7, 2026 · Next review December 22, 2026 · 10 products scored

Our pickClioSolo attorneys and small firms that want the widest set of add-ons and integrations to grow into.8.7

Our verdict

Clio is the pick for most solo and small firms: trust and operating reconciliation, online payments and calendar sync are on its $49 Starter plan, and its add-ons cover intake and AI as the firm grows. MyCase is the closest rival and has the clearest pricing, with intake forms, texting and workflows on Pro. PracticePanther keeps the entry price low for solo billing. CosmoLex is the choice when trust compliance and one set of books matter most, and Lawcus is the cheapest way to get trust accounting at $39 per user. Smokeball, LEAP and Filevine offer deeper document and litigation tools but need a quote.

The short answer

Clio is the best law practice management software for solo attorneys and small firms in 2026, from $49 per user per month; MyCase suits small firms that want intake forms, texting and automation with published prices, from $50 per user per month billed annually. Lawcus is the cheapest option at $39 per user per month billed annually, with trust accounting included.

This list is for solo attorneys and small law firms that need to manage matters, record billable time, hold client funds in trust and bring in new clients. We compared documented features and published prices for 10 products, from low-cost billing tools to litigation platforms, and scored each on features, ease of use and value. Prices are the cheapest paid plan in US dollars as shown on the vendor's own pricing page when we checked it, per user per month. Three vendors only quote prices after a demo, and their prices are marked as pending.

    Price

Starter from $49 per user per month; Core, Signature and Elite prices on request

Quoted from the Clio pricing page on November 7, 2026: STARTING AT $49/USER

Clio Manage is the core product, and even the Starter plan covers the jobs a solo practice runs every day: contacts and matters, unlimited document storage, calendaring with two-way Google and Outlook sync, task templates, time and expense tracking, and online payments by card, eCheck, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Trust and operating accounts can be reconciled inside Clio, which saves a small firm from running separate bookkeeping software for client funds. Core adds custom fields and AI help that drafts bills and client updates from matter activity, Signature adds matter stages on kanban boards and unlimited custom roles, and Elite bundles Clio Grow for intake forms, consultation booking and referral tracking. The weak spot is price transparency: only Starter shows a figure, $49 per user, and every higher tier sends you to sales. The 7-day trial is also shorter than most rivals offer, so plan the test before you sign up.

    What works

    • +Legal accounting is built into the Starter plan
    • +7-day free trial with no credit card
    • +Clio says more than 400,000 legal professionals use it

    What does not

    • −Only the Starter price is published; higher plans need a quote
    • −Custom fields start on Core and matter stages on Signature
    • −Intake and lead tools sit in the separate Clio Grow product

    Price

Basic from $50 per user per month billed annually or $60 monthly; Pro $100, Advanced $130 billed annually

Quoted from the MyCase pricing page on November 7, 2026: MyCase Basic plan is $50 per user/month (billed annually) or $60 per user/month (billed monthly)

MyCase publishes every price, which makes budgeting simple: Basic is $50 per user per month billed annually or $60 monthly, Pro is $100 or $120, and Advanced is $130 or $150. Basic already handles case and contact management, time entry, invoicing, trust accounting, unlimited document storage and online payments with next-day deposits, so a solo attorney can run a practice on it. The plan most small firms will want is Pro, which adds client intake forms and a legal CRM, unlimited eSignature, document generation, automated workflows, 2-way texting with chat and call logs, and 70 or more integrations. Advanced adds AI case and discovery assistants, conflict check tracking, split billing and an open API. Payments run through LawPay, owned by the same company, with no monthly fee and IOLTA protections. Full legal accounting with three-way trust reconciliation is a $39 per user add-on, available only on Pro and Advanced, which raises the real cost for firms that want books in the same system.

    What works

    • +All three plan prices are published, monthly and annual
    • +10-day free trial with full access and no credit card
    • +LawPay payments carry no monthly fee

    What does not

    • −Intake forms, texting and workflows need Pro at $100 per user

    Price

Solo from $49 per user per month billed annually or $59 monthly; Business Pro $114 annually

Quoted from the PracticePanther pricing page on November 7, 2026: SOLO $59 per user/month $49 per user/month

PracticePanther splits its product into four plans, and the cheapest is aimed squarely at solo lawyers: Solo costs $49 per user per month billed annually or $59 monthly. Every plan includes contact and matter management, billable time and expense tracking, a secure client portal with two-way messaging, unlimited data storage and apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Solo adds internal chat, real-time notifications, a daily agenda email, document templates, task and event workflows, and native payments through PantherPayments. Essential at $69 annual adds custom fields, security roles and multiple bank accounts. Business at $89 is where intake forms, unlimited eSignature sends, 2-way texting and LEDES billing appear. Business Pro at $114 adds PantherAccounting Plus with trust and operating accounting, a general ledger and a guided three-way reconciliation wizard. The structure keeps the entry price low, but a firm that wants intake and accounting together ends up paying more than twice the Solo rate.

    What works

    • +Client portal and mobile apps are on every plan
    • +Annual billing saves $120 per user per year
    • +7-day free trial with no credit card

    What does not

    • −Intake forms and texting need the $89 Business plan
    • −Full trust and operating accounting needs Business Pro at $114
    • −Court calendar rules require a LawToolBox subscription

    Price

Launch from $49 per user per month billed yearly; Core $99, Pro $129

Quoted from the CosmoLex pricing page on November 7, 2026: Launch $49 user/mo

CosmoLex built its reputation on putting legal accounting next to practice management, and the plans still lead with it. Launch, at $49 per user per month billed yearly, includes time tracking and invoicing, retainers and recurring payments, LEDES and split billing, online card and eCheck payments, trust accounting with automatic transfers and holds, trust compliance reporting and bank reconciliation, plus matter management and a client portal. Core at $99 adds the general ledger and payables, bank feeds, matter budgets, logic-based intake forms, document assembly and AI document summaries, so a firm can drop separate bookkeeping software. Pro at $129 adds online scheduling with Outlook and Google sync, intake workflow automation and an open REST API. Growth tools such as the CRM, websites, Google Ads management and LexShare e-signature cost extra. The jump from Launch to Core is large, but for a firm that would otherwise pay for QuickBooks and a trust ledger, Core replaces both.

    What works

    • +Trust compliance reporting is on the cheapest plan
    • +Free trial with no credit card
    • +Phone, email and chat support on every plan

    What does not

    • −General ledger, payables and bank feeds need Core at $99
    • −Calendar sync and intake automation need Pro
    • −CRM and e-signature are separate add-ons

    Price

Essential from $39 per user per month billed annually or $49 monthly; Growth $59, Elite $79 annually

Quoted from the Lawcus pricing page on November 7, 2026: Essential $39 per user/month

Lawcus has the lowest published entry price here: Essential costs $39 per user per month billed annually or $49 monthly, and it already includes case and matter management, billing and invoicing, and trust accounting with retainers. Matters can be tracked on kanban-style pipelines, which suits practices with repeatable stages such as immigration or bankruptcy. The pricing page also lists statute of limitation alerts, matter-level billing rules, timers, soft and hard cost tracking, LEDES and UTBMS codes, bulk invoices and online payments by ACH, eCheck or card. Growth at $59 adds QuickBooks and Xero sync, Google and Office 365 integration, custom fields and the Nova AI assistant. Elite at $79 adds workflow and marketing automation and a custom report builder. Two catches matter for solo users: the mobile app is only available to firms with more than one user, and two-way texting costs $10 per attorney per month plus a registration fee for the number.

    What works

    • +Lowest published entry price on this list
    • +Trust accounting is on the Essential plan
    • +More than 115 reports, according to Lawcus

    What does not

    • −QuickBooks, Xero, Google and Office 365 integrations need Growth

Smokeball is built around the idea that small firms lose billable time they never record. Its AutoTime feature tracks time and activity automatically, and it is included on the top Prosper+ plan or sold as an add-on to Grow. The four plans step up clearly: Bill covers billing, expenses, trust accounting and payments; Boost adds browser-based case management, Microsoft 365 Word and Outlook integration, a client portal, eSignature and eFiling; Grow adds the native desktop app, practice area templates and calculators, advanced document automation and email management; and Prosper+ adds lead management, inquiry intake, custom workflows and profitability reporting. Practice area tools cover areas such as family law, personal injury, real estate and probate. Smokeball says there is no limit on firm users or clients. The drawback is pricing: the page lists no figures and explains that cost depends on users, plan, contract term and options, so firms must request a quote.

    What works

    • +No limit on the number of firm users or clients
    • +Unlimited electronic signatures through InfoTrack
    • +Training through live sessions and Smokeball Academy

    What does not

    • −No prices are published; every plan needs a quote
    • −AutoTime is an add-on below Prosper+
    • −Online payments and trust management carry fees

Essentials from $59 per user per month paid annually; Pro $95, Premier $115, Elite $145

Quoted from the Rocket Matter pricing page on November 7, 2026: Essentials $59 user/month (Paid Annually)

Rocket Matter started as a legal billing product, and billing remains its strength. The plan table lists paperless prebills, bulk payments, custom rate management, interest calculation, discounts, convenience fees, hard cost tracking, LEDES codes and e-billing, split billing and fee allocation. Matter tools include conflict checks, a matter status board, matter templates and workflows with status automation, dependent task and event logic, and matter budgets. Higher tiers add built-in law office business accounting with a legal chart of accounts, reconciliation of trust, operating and credit card accounts, accounts payable and automatic bank feeds. Essentials costs $59 per user per month paid annually, Pro $95, Premier $115 and Elite $145. Intake is sold separately: the legal CRM add-on costs $39 per user per month annually for Core with a $399 onboarding fee and is only available on Pro and Premier. One oddity is that the FAQ on the same page says plans start at $49, while the plan table shows $59.

    What works

    • +Free data migration on every plan, per the pricing FAQ
    • +Phone, email and chat support
    • +SOC 2 Type 2 compliance

    What does not

LEAP pitches itself as an end-to-end system for small firms, and the subscription includes case management, a library of automated forms and templates, legal AI tools, automatic timekeeping, legal accounting and billing, unlimited document storage and mobile access. It works alongside Microsoft 365, syncing email and calendar items and letting staff draft and collaborate on documents in familiar tools. The forms library is the main draw for practice areas with heavy paperwork, and LEAP lists dedicated tools for estate planning and probate, family law, real estate settlement forms and calculations, litigation deadlines and personal injury, plus an integration with WealthCounsel for estate planning drafting. LEAP says it can migrate data from Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, Rocket Matter, Filevine, CosmoLex and others. The pricing page publishes no figures, mentions a possible one-time implementation fee for installation, migration and training, and notes that some third-party integrations need separate subscriptions.

    What works

    • +Migration from Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther and other systems

Filevine is the heaviest platform on this list, aimed at litigation-driven practices such as personal injury, mass torts, insurance defense and family law. The pricing page describes packages rather than plans. Matters is the core hub, with matter management, task tracking, contacts, deadlines and calendars, document management with advanced search and secure sharing, document assembly that generates documents from matter data, and payments with time tracking, invoices and online payments. Intake adds lead capture and marketing ROI tracking, and separate packages cover depositions and signatures. On top sits LOIS, Filevine's AI system, which includes AI drafting, a Word add-in, deposition transcription and summaries, and MedChron for building medical timelines from records. Filevine lists solo and small firms among those it serves, but every package is custom built and the page shows no figures. For a solo attorney who mainly needs time billing and trust accounting, that depth adds cost and setup without much return.

    What works

    • +Deep tools for litigation, including depositions and medical chronologies
    • +Packages built around Matters, Intake, Depositions and Signatures
    • +Separate offerings by firm size, including solo

    What does not

    • −No prices are published; packages are custom built

Before you choose

Check where trust accounting sits in the plan list

Holding retainers means you need a trust ledger and reconciliation that stand up to a bar audit. Clio, CosmoLex, Lawcus and MyCase include trust accounting on their cheapest plan. A full general ledger with bank feeds costs more: CosmoLex Core is $99, PracticePanther Business Pro $114, and MyCase Accounting is a $39 per user add-on on Pro and Advanced.

Price the plan that includes client intake

Entry plans rarely include intake forms or texting. PracticePanther puts them on Business at $89 per user billed annually, MyCase on Pro at $100, and CosmoLex adds logic-based intake forms on Core at $99. Clio sells intake through Clio Grow, and Rocket Matter through a CRM add-on with a $399 onboarding fee.

Compare annual and monthly billing

Most vendors discount annual plans. MyCase Basic is $50 per user billed annually or $60 monthly, PracticePanther Solo $49 or $59, and Lawcus Essential $39 or $49. A three-person firm on monthly billing pays about $360 more a year than on annual billing at those rates.

Ask quote-only vendors for the full first-year cost

Smokeball, LEAP and Filevine publish no prices, and CARET Legal and LEAP mention one-time implementation fees. Ask for the subscription, onboarding, data migration and payment processing costs in writing, so you can compare them with list-priced tools on the same basis.
